The training camps
When the Pakistani army began its crackdown in March 1971, many Bengali soldiers of the East Bengal Regiment and the East Pakistan Rifles, along with police and others, turned against it. They became the trained core of the Mukti Bahini.
The fighting was organised into eleven sectors, each under a Bengali commander. Sector 2, covering Comilla and Noakhali and reaching towards Dhaka, was commanded by Major Khaled Mosharraf, with its headquarters at Melaghar, across the border in Tripura.
Behind the regular units came tens of thousands of volunteers: students, farmers, workers and boatmen. In camps along the border in India they were given a few weeks of training, in weapons, field craft and demolition, by Bengali officers and NCOs and with the help of India, which sheltered millions of refugees and supplied arms and training. Then they crossed back into occupied Bangladesh to fight.
The mission "Training camp, Sector 2" is a composite of these camps. The havildar who trains you and your section are fictional.
